Sustainable Eco Accommodation in Byron Bay

At Carinya Byron Bay, sustainability isn’t just a feature, it’s the way we live every day. Our family has been caring for this land for over 25 years, replanting rainforest, restoring ecosystems, and creating a place where guests can enjoy nature without leaving a heavy footprint.

Staying at Carinya means experiencing the beauty of the Byron hinterland while supporting a property that’s completely off-grid and proudly connected to local community projects.

Off-Grid Living

All six of our villas run on solar power with battery storage, supported by a backup generator. By harnessing the sun, we’re able to power your stay while reducing our impact on the environment.

To keep energy use low, we don’t use air conditioning. Instead, plantation shutters and ceiling fans let the natural breezes flow through in summer, while cosy gas heating keeps things warm in winter.

Pure Rainwater

Every drop of water you use at Carinya is harvested rainwater, filtered through a three-stage Puretec system that balances pH and sterilises with UV light. It’s chemical-free, pure, and perfectly safe to drink straight from the tap.

With more than 250,000 litres of storage, we’re well equipped for dry spells — but we do ask guests to be mindful of water use, especially in times of drought.

Giving Back to Community & Wildlife

Caring for our community and environment is at the heart of Carinya. During your stay, you’re also helping support:

The SHIFT Project Byron – providing laundry services for all our villas and helping women transition from homelessness to independence.

Bangalow Koalas – we’ve planted more than 2,000 trees on the property to create a koala corridor, helping these iconic animals move safely across the hinterland.

Local artists and makers – from the art on your villa walls to the snacks in your welcome basket, we’re proud to showcase and support small Byron businesses.
